Many Faces

Geoff was helping Wyatt with his math homework one night and Avery (still in her swimsuit) was sitting next the them making quite the many faces.  Why is it that our kids want to sit on everything but chairs?

Romero Britto Art

The boys painted hearts Romero Britto-style in art last week.  Romero Britto is from Brazil and is a neo-pop style artist.  His work has appeared in ads for Absolut, Pepsi, BMW, Royal Carribean Cruises and more.  He uses bright vibrant colors and thick black lines.

Valentine

The boys needed valentine boxes for school on Friday to collect valentine cards.  We didn't think too much about decorating it.  But they were cute and the boys loved them and that was all that mattered.  Avery saw them and wanted the box too.

 Wyatt snatched it back from her (excuse all the sad packing tape)…and she was quite upset.

 So Jack made her one really quick right before we left for school.  She was happy.  Another shot of Jack's box eating a Valentine.  Yes, that is paint on his hands that we couldn't get off from art the night before…see next post.

Avery and I went to their class party and the kids had so much fun running around putting their cards in each box.  Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Sochi 2014

I love the Olympics.  I am always so inspired by the athletes.  Regardless of what country they are from.  So far my favorite event has been the slopestyle snowboarding.  I loved that an "underdog" Sage Kotsenburg (he was surprised he even made it to the finals) won and I loved how the three medalist were jumping up and down and hugging.  If you didn't know it, you would think they were all from the same country and best friends.    

I especially loved (and bawled my eyes out) watching Alex Bilodeau win the gold medal in the moguls.  Seeing his brother Frederic cheering as if he himself had won the medal.  And hearing Alex talk about his relationship with his brother Frederic.  What a story.  What a relationship.

Avery was inspired by the figure skating.  I didn't get my camera in time for the best stuff…but she started spinning and kicking and making faces.  It was great.

Superbowl Sunday Ski

We went back to Bachelor yesterday to ski…three weekends in a row for Geoff and the boys.  Avery was so much more willing to try yesterday.

I think what changed her mind was when the boys left without her last weekend.  And Geoff kept asking her if she wanted to ski this past week.  I rented my skis and Geoff got the kids ready.   The boys were playing on this hill with Avery while we were getting all set.

We started at the free chair lift and the boys and I  did that hill six times (Avery and Geoff did it five)….but Geoff gets bored easy.  So he did the hill (the normal way) the first time.  Then he decided to go on a little trail through the trees.

That went ok (for me).  Then he went that same way but kept going further…definitely more treacherous.  I almost crashed but somehow saved myself.
  Then on the next chairlift ride up he says he is going to the trees on the right.  I am thinking "how hard can it be if he is can do it while holding Avery?"  Well I did follow them (never again) and had a major crash.  It was a tiny trail through the trees (I need a lot more space to make turns on skis) and ended with basically a mini cliff to get back onto the main pass.  I couldn't slow down and I went face first onto the main hill.  I felt my right knee tweak some as the ski broke off my boot.  Ouch.  The boys thought it was hilarious.  So we took a break and warmed up in the lodge.

 And then the boys and I went on the quad lift up to the main mountain.  I made the boys do two greens with me and I was good for the day.  The green seemed more like a blue to me (did I mention that I had a 3-year break from skiing) and it was windy and snowy and a bit hard to see.  I didn't want to fully ruin my confidence with a blue with those conditions.  It is funny bc I want to follow the boys down the hill - they are awesome and make it look really easy.  And they are trying to follow me.  Geoff and I switched out after that and he took the boys on two more runs while I stayed with Avery.  Our only group shot of the day of all five of us after our first day skiing together!

This one refuses to sleep in the car.  She didn't sleep for one second on the way up to the moutain but she did fall asleep shortly after we left the mountain.  But we only drove 30 minutes to dinner so we had to wake her up….and then she didn't sleep the entire drive back home.  We couldn't believe it.  Even the boys slept on the way home.

All in all, a fun day. And Geoff sacrificed watching the big game (he planned on DVRing but forgot) to ski.  

Winter Wonderland

Playing catch up - fun snow pictures when it snowed last.  The boys wanted to use the "snowman kit" they received from Grammy and Grandpa at Christmas.  And they wanted to use every piece in the whole kit…at one time.
